hair bow organizer

i'm not as crafty as some folks. i don't have the patience for it. but sometimes an idea is simple enough that it pans out for me and makes me feel all smart again.

i've needed to organize AC's bows and accoutrements for a while now. it started with a ribbon hanging on the back of her closet. and since she has such wild hair that actually requires the help of a spray bottle and detangler and sometimes mousse...it was just easier to move her stuff to my bathroom. but i already share a bathroom and storage that is easy and doesn't get in the way of my too many B&B lotions is paramount.

so, after much thought and hours spent looking at websites and Pinterest (my new love and time suck) i decided to quit looking and get with it already.

oddly, the idea didn't come to full fruition until i was browsing around Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday. (i was really there on the prowl looking for shoe organization for me and barbie organization for her.) but i ran across this little diddy and thought..."hey, this could work."

it's a jewelry organizer. now let me be honest, i actually thought the little pockets were larger than they are. i thought the bows would fit inside the pockets. but, in response to the stink eye i was giving the too small pockets, the brilliance that is my husband said, "can you just clip them over the edge?"

Well, yes, dang it...i can. the ones that have alligator clips anyway. but what about the french barrettes? they need to clip closed to stay on.

I eyed it. i crooked my mouth. i grabbed the seam ripper (since i actually knew where it was...the sewing drawers having just been organized...do you see a theme?) and sliced the bottom of the pockets so that i could close the bow around it. it was magic.

truly a beautiful thing. so simple. it's double sided, so bows on one side...pony tail holders and barrettes on the other. slap some cute stickers on it (b/c i don't have one of those super cool cricut things) and call her done!

show it to you kid and forbid her touch it. easy peasy!

AC 360 + a 5 minute craft

we have 5 days until ally claire's birthday. and being that i have a warped sense of humor, i decided a while back that since i call her AC on the blogs, i had to do a post titled AC 360. (if you don't watch the news ever, that is the name of anderson cooper's show. i thought it was funny.) anyway...what better way to start your 360th day with some fresh 'O's...

and freshly painted toes?? just in time to sport them in the sand little sister. well played.

try not to eat her...

and for your craft...do you have a million of these around your house? i'm certain we have them in every room. and while they are convenient...they are ugly. and you know i have a slight love affair with a can of spray paint, right? (it can right so many wrongs!!) why not take a few minutes, a wipe box, a can of spray paint and a paint pen and go from this...

to one of these???

i copied this "T" from the towel giveaway i won from Joy last week.

('member when i was trying to decide what color to use on those thrift store end tables? this is the cappuccino that i didn't use on them.) and you could peel the sticker off, but i'm obviously lazy and didn't. that's so much prettier than nemo in my bathroom.
i also won that fantastic handpainted tray from simply seleta's giveaway. i am waiting anxiously in the mail for it. i never win anything, but after the craziness that has been trying to sell our house, i sure was tickled about those. go make your house pretty. i'll see yall next week!!

didja wanna see...

what i've been up to?
here, we have the during process of rewiring my kitchen. fortunately, we had a great electrician and he was super nice and super quick and super reasonable...and that was SUPER!! (if you'll look in the background, you can see my chalkboard tray that says we have 11 days until gulf shores. that was a week ago.)

i've also had to deal with this...the boys are supposed to throw their trash from lunch away when they are done. this is the evidence that seth didn't follow that rule that day. things can be "too quiet" even with an almost 1 year old!! BUSTED!!
why yes, mom. i also use pudding to paint on your semi-clean floors.
and here we have miss almost walking. she can get behind her little toy and walk from the front to the back of the house. i would assume that by the end of june, i'll have a little walker on my hands. and if you think i don't update enough now (not that any of you have said that), just wait. cause she is obviously also little miss into everything.
and yesterday, i was super busy. i washed 4 loads of laundry in preps for our trip. i re-hung sis's curtains a few inches higher...

and i redecorated my bathroom. i should have done a before and after shot. but i wasn't sure i was gonna pull it off and be quite so pleased. first, i moved a cabinet over to the other wall and replaced some of the "stuff" on top. then, i decided to make a shower curtain and hang it HIGH.
(why yes. yes that IS a twin sized sheet that i added grosgrain ribbon to and hung it on a rod with drapery hooks.)
i just slapped that bar up there where i wanted it. figured out how much i'd need to fold over from the top of the sheet. gave it a good iron and added two stripes of ribbon for a finishing touch.
so by doing that, it gave me a curtain and a valance...b/c i wanted to desperately cover up this totally hideoderous shower. i hate shower doors. HATE them.
and some of you have probably recieved that card in the frame. but doesn't it look cute? i think so. and that cutie patootie lamp came from the DG (dolla gen-ral). the shells that you can kinda see are compliments of gulf shores a couple of years ago.
and now, as completely entertaining as that was, i must bid you adieu. reason being...not sure if i've mentioned it, but we are going to the beeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaach. and we are leaving on saturday for a quick stop in troy to see our college friends. and do you know that i haven't even gotten the suitcases down from the attic yet? totally not how i usually roll. but never fear, i will be bringing my computer with me so that you can see AC on her actual birthday. i mean, who can be without that kind of cuteness?? and did i mention that i'm supposed to show my house today? yeah.

a butterfly for my butterfly...

i've had several projects going on lately. and the other night, i decided to whip out my sewing machine and try something i have been putting off...applique. i knew it wouldn't be too hard, but i am a seriously novice seamstress. (i originally wrote sewer right there, but that doesn't look right. even though, seamstress is sooooo--or sew-far from what i do.) anyway, here is my first attempt. it is so far from perfect, but still, darn cute.

why on earth i chose something so curvy for my first attempt, i have no clue. just call me ambitious.

and i absolutely did NOT sew the shirt together in one place. not me!!

did i happen to mention that the fabric i used is from a patch kit. you know, like the kind you use to patch jeans and whatnot?? well, it is. it was so first time and practice, i didn't even use stablizer. i'm sure i'll regret it after i wash it once. but oh well, i'm good with that. i have the next pattern all cut out. and it's gonna be equally as insane...but more. cause again...i'm crazy ambitious.

she liked it...and that's all that matters.

now is not the time

yall, i am seriously tired. i think i forgot to mention that in all of my tests within the last couple of weeks, i'm also a little anemic. not too bad. normal is 12-16. optimal is 14. i'm 11.8. so i'm feeling the slug, that's for sure. but it is not the time to be tired. i spent 3...count them THREE hours at walmart today send award to becky tucker 19... getting a few last minute things, talking to a friend and grocery shopping. DUDE. good thing i slept from 7-10pm & 1-9am before heading out. when i got home, there were groceries to be put away, gifts to be wrapped, pretzels to be dipped, banana bread to be loafed, cheese claws to be mixed and frozen, cinnamon candies to be unwrapped and a taggie blanket to be made. (you can buy them here, but they are too easy and cheap to make to spend that kind of money.) just what does this mean for yall?? it means there are posts a comin' this week. there are recipes to divulge, crafts to brag about (cause i still need to make some hooded towels for little sis too!) and pictures of all of it to post.

i have enough to make one more taggie if anyone is interested. one side is a celestial print flannel and the opposite side is a baby yellow fleece. it measures 18"x22". i think we were all a little devastated by not getting to win Darby's latest creations i know i pouted like i was 2 so if you have a little one who would enjoy it or know someone who might, leave me a comment and i'll draw names. i'll accept comments until monday at 5pm CST. that will get us through the weekend hump. (and it will give me time to collect more than my 15 readers maybe!!) actually, since i'm in the christmas spirit, if i get more than 30 comments, i'll cut it in half and give away 2!! (how's that for comment begging?? i was gonna use another word, but didn't think it was appropriate due to the season or the item being given lol!!)

getting reacquainted

i haven't sewn a stitch in over 6 months until yesterday. our pesky little adorable crafty friends have inspired me. Yall make me feel the need to be a better mama, especially during this holiday season. (Dana, i'm dying to know how you found PJs to tie dye. Kera, i covet those cute boy/girl holiday shirts. and i believe we have all seen the better version of the following crayon bag over at the Stickler's.) so i got out my sewing machine and embarked on making one of those cute crayon bags for our friend maddie with some scraps i had from making burp cloths.

and while getting reacquainted, i remembered why i hate it when i put my sewing down for so long. my best friend becomes my seam ripper. not necessarily for bad seams, but because my brain is out of shape. see, i am completely self taught, and while that doesn't excuse me b/c i'm sure the rest of you are also, i just haven't dared to do enough projects that require much "put it together" thought. my next project is gonna be the typical a-line dress/shirt with the cutey little pants that go under them. i'm so stinkin OCD, i think about it too much. so i'm loading up my material and taking it with me to see my mama on friday. i also put together a little diaper and wipes carrier with some scraps.

i'm gonna end up redoing the crayon bag b/c if you click on the picture please don't, you'll see that the crayon pocket isn't even and after getting all wrapped up in lining it, i forgot to do the pocket lines first. it's that kind of thing that drives me a little batty.

sister seems to be teething (again!!) but is being so super sweet. she is working on sitting a little more. and that girl is a sho nuff bouncer. she LOVES it!! she has been using the regular doorway jumper, but once she is done with her swing, i'm gonna move the jumperoo in...if her chunky hiney can fit in it!! i will have the swing, and 2 strollers plus a car seat to take down to the consignment shop!! it's very bittersweet for me. i'm not sad that she is the last, but i'm sad it is going so quickly!!

and the little men...they are up to their shananigans as usual. it's fighting about something most of the time. it's making huge messes. it's typical brotherdom. but it's also cute things like this

and this.

you never know what you'll see around my house.
(why yes, that is a dinosaur trying to eat the bag of pepperments and old valentine's spiderman suckers!)
