things that go bump in the night...

we are having a little issue at our house right now with him...
he has started waking up at 2-3 in the morning and walking across the house to come get in my bed because he is scared of these...

and not actually these particular monsters...but monsters and "spookilies" in his closet. we lead him back to his bed. we use monster spray (air freshener). i know it is a phase, but halloween isn't helping me out at alllllll. i'm thinking of doing what Kristen did and putting a crib mattress under my bed for him just in case or in the corner. any other suggestions?

This is hilarious. Be glad he doesn't have night terrors like my middle brother did. He used to get "stuck" in a nightmare and scream and walk around the house...my parents couldn't get him "un-stuck"...it was really scary.

becky,
granger used to say their were monsters in his room and we started reading a book called "Leonardo, the Terrible Monster". I am not convinced the book took care of the issue but he was definitely not scared of monsters anymore. We also had a veggie tales book about God being bigger than any monster but I can't find it right now. I do like your monster spray idea though. Just remember if you let them crash in your room for 7 days then it becomes habit. This is why I can't seem to make it once to the gym. I am too afraid it might become habit :) although I definitely need it.

haaa!! that is too funny about the gym. maybe that is my problem too!! but that definitely makes me think twice about putting a small mattress for him to crash on. i guess i'll just keep taking him back to bed. i'll have to dig out our veggie tales that has that one on it...now where is it??

We are having the same issue but with puppy dogs. When we pray she even says thank you for keeping the puppy dogs away. Every little noise during the day is a puppy dog trying to get her. I have added more night lights to her room and try to tell her that we don't allow dogs in our house. It is very frustrating to me because I have no idea how to make this stop. I will be checking back to see what has worked for others.

I'm just impressed you can function well enough in the middle of the night to get up and take him back to his bed! I can't hardly MOVE after I have been dead asleep for that long, at this point, I pick him up and put him in the bed with us. I know it must be broken at some point, especially with a baby on the way, but I don't function well at that hour. I better get used to it though! I like the monster spray idea. I'll have to use that when Brooks becomes scared of monsters.

Actually Joshua and Marah are going through a little bit of this, but it's probably because their daddy likes to tease and scare them. The Veggietales book is pretty cute. Good luck.

I also need your address for the Pay It Forward Game.

I just love the monster spray! That's ingenious. I'm SOOOO using that when the time comes!

I think you're doing the right thing. There have been a couple of times we've let Emma get in the bed with us because she had a bad dream. It didn't even take 7 days for it to become a habit. But it did take 7 days of walking her back to her room to make a new habit!

And replying to Susan's comment... I don't know that you can make it until 12 but I kept Emma in the crib until 2 and a half. It complicates things a lot when you get rid of those rails!

last night he stayed in his bed all night. i heard the acquarium go off a couple of times, so don't know if he rolled into it (on bookcase headboard) or if he woke up and turned it on both times, but i told him i was super proud he stayed in his bed, although it woke me up.

and tara, i am a light sleeper since having kids, so the middle of the night doesnt' bother me like the early morning like 5-6 am does!!

Also Cool
